The original is unfaithful to the translation. Jorge Luis Borges

We have had enough of living in square boxes. It's time to start from scratch: we take a black box theatre space and re-organise it into a space with holes in the walls. We animate it from a dead placeholder of objects into a living organism that breathes, moves, scratches, revolts and speaks. When it speaks, its language is part sound part image part darkness. Intergalactic is a performance in which we build an intergalactic world and move the audience around without them ever leaving their seats.

As simple as it starts, the performance gradually sharpens all of our senses. The minimal movement of the performers is interwoven with the sound and light that swirl from one corner to another. The makers play magic with our perception of space and tilt our sense of reality. A very fine example of literal outside-of-the-box thinking. (**** Trouw)

A radical break with living and thinking in boxes. The performance carries the spectator to grey areas between unsheltered corners. And this is how the bare stage suddenly provides access to a labyrinth of spaces. (**** Cultuurbewust)

Intergalactic was inspired by Jorge Luis Borges’ story Tlön Uqbar, Orbis Tertius - ‘a massive conspiracy to imagine (and thereby create) a world’.

Ten years ago, any symmetrical system whatsoever which gave the appearance of order — dialectical materialismanti-SemitismNazism—was enough to fascinate men. (...) Useless to reply that reality, too is ordered.

Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, Jorge Luis Borges

Intergalactic is the first production by Tilt, an interdisciplinary platform founded by choreographer/artist Andrea Božić, sound artist Robert Pravda and visual artist Julia Willms to promote artistic practice and thinking beyond disciplines.
